Boring Cereal Eater 2/31 #sol17

This morning I lifted my spoon full of Cheerios, Life, and Fiber One to my mouth and wondered just how many times I've eaten a bowl of cereal.

Why is it that I am such a boring breakfast eater? Ever since I can remember, I've eaten a bowl of cereal (not sugar cereal) in the morning. Even when I had to wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning before a high school ski bus trip, I'd still sit at the bench in my childhood kitchen and fill up on a bowl before I left. On days that I might somehow manage to skip my morning bowl, I usually end up with a bowl in the mid afternoon or late at night!

I always think of myself as a lover of novelty. When it comes to restaurants and vacations and family activities, I'd rather go somewhere new. New. New. New! So, why, I wonder, do I continue to eat the same thing day in and day out for breakfast? Maybe it's because I remember how close I felt to my mom as she and I shared our morning bowl of cereal before school each day often in silence while reading. Maybe it's because I am that weird person who doesn't even like bacon. Maybe it's because I didn't really learn how to cook or bake until I was over 30. Maybe it's because it's too darn fun to watch my own son narrate each spoonful and the interactions of his bites of cereal just like I did as a kid. "No, no! Don't eat me!" Lifts spoon to mouth and laughs.

This morning I lifted my spoon full of Cheerios, Life, and Fiber One to my mouth and wondered just how many times I've eaten a bowl of cereal.
