When I got home today there was a pile of mail on the counter. Not just junk mail, but real mail from someone I love! It was a baby announcement from my sweet cousin with beautiful photos of her precious baby girl. The kiddo had real mail too! A free book from the PJ Library, a once a month occurrence that is exciting every time. Getting mail is so much better than getting texts or calls or e-mails. It's way better than facebook messages and posts that you're tagged in. Snail mail shows some real time spent, deciding to write and send, addressing the envelop, adding a stamp, and walking or driving to a post office.
Once upon a time back in elementary school my friend and I put off boredom by creating The Mailman Fanclub. In this club we made up members, our characters and cast. The big kid who wrote with large handwriting. The short skinny kid with teeny tiny handwriting. Boys and girls. All kinds of love letters of appreciation and thanks to the mailman. "Please mail man, please bring me a letter! I will be forever thankful! You are amazing and do a great job. We get so excited when you arrive at the end of the day. Please mailman, please!" "We love the mailman! We love getting letters! Oh thank you kind mailman!" and on and on and on.
You know what they say..."if you're unsure about what to do in life"... or is it "what your passion is"..."go back to see what you like to do when you were a ten year old." Hmmm...so, I could interpret that to mean I'm meant to write love letters to my current mailman, I could be a leader and create a new support group, I can send little letters of appreciation to the people in my life regularly (especially the often forgotten people in our lives), or that I am to be a writer. I'll have to keep thinking about the proper interpretation. For now, I'll tackle the last two. Writing and sending regular notes of appreciation to my family, friends, coworkers, teachers, janitors, helpful sales reps, & servers, etc.
