Crazy September

High holy days, start to school, Phil's birthday, Micah's birthday, and to top it off our brother-in-law found out about & had surgery for testicular cancer! My goodness! No wonder I feel as though I can't hold another thing in my brain at all!

On the ferry to Bainbridge

somehow we fit in a day trip before all the madness began

My little guy all dressed up for Rosh Hashana services

I spent a lot of time trying to make my classroom more inviting this year

almost a year old = time to try our first ice cream!

I want to remember this silly little guy!

As I mentioned above, our brother-in-law, Andrew, found out in September that he had cancer. Boo. Worst news for our family in a long time. Luckily, they caught it early enough (self detection works...great job Andrew!). They found it, Andrew had surgery only weeks later, and then a few weeks after that he was declared cancer free! Of course, they are still going to be cautious and scan him each month for one or two years with regular check ups for the next five years, but it is a huge relief. Needless to say it was an extremely worrisome and stressful month. Cassie and Andrew both remained positive and calm throughout the whole process. It was truly amazing and inspiring. I'm so proud of them. I'm also thankful to Phil and to my parents, who all stepped up and took off work to take care of Micah so that Susan could be with Cassie and Andrew for the week of his surgery and I could be with my students on the first weeks of school. While we couldn't be there to support Andrew during his surgery, we were able to visit a few weeks later. We got to spend some great quality time together and since they missed Phil & Micah's birthdays, we celebrated together too. Micah loved time with his Aunt & Uncle. A benefit of visiting them was being there (in the Bay Area) to support Cassie on her first half marathon.
Uncle Andrew is the best!

Love this sweet photo of Micah and Andrew at Spassos in San Carlos

Does September always seem like the craziest month of the year to everyone else?
